Google DeepMind: CoScientist

This artwork was developed in collaboration with the DeepMind team to illustrate a journal article about Co-Scientist—a multi-agent AI system built with Gemini that serves as a virtual partner for scientific discovery. As recently published in Nature, Co-Scientist has been officially announced as a system that iteratively generates, debates, and evolves hypotheses for complex problems. The system has also recently expanded beyond theoretical research, gaining the ability to generate experiment code and issue commands directly to laboratory equipment. This practical, cross-disciplinary functionality became the central theme of the artwork.

It was important to have a rich and varied visual narrative to capture the scale of this development, and we achieved this by conceptualising an "infinite lab." The illustration depicts a sprawling, multi-storey laboratory building where viewers can peer through a vast number of illuminated windows. Inside each open room, a completely different example of active scientific research is taking place—symbolising the system's coalition of specialized agents working in parallel to ideate and experiment across domains like biology, materials science, and computer science. A few windows feature closed blinds, subtly indicating private or unannounced development. Together, these interconnected vignettes visually represent Co-Scientist's official mission to serve as a dedicated partner in the generation and refinement of breakthrough scientific hypotheses on an endless scale.
